The process of adaptation to a new environment,
species that persevere,
transform,
continue on dying
and being born again.
Much is thought of the mental state and social implications that one’s body goes through when placed in a new environment,
but what about
the skin cells,
the ones who die
in an effort
to become stronger.
The skin’s natural levels of humidity change once in a foreign space,
and the skin creates its own revolution,
in order to adapt.
Fluctuating temperatures,
dropping,
increasing,
unforgiving,
fast-paced.
High ones increase the production of oil,
low ones,
make it thirsty.
Cortisol levels arise,
coloration goes from dusk
to dawn.
Skin cells keep imploring for hydration,
blood vessels narrow
only to keep you warm.
It’s almost as if the body knows it’s getting stronger,
but refuses to completely adapt.
Skin cells get stuck in between
yesterday
and tomorrow.
Coping mechanisms:
Raynaud’s,
lack of vitamins,
pale tones.
A refusal to grow a second skin.
